How to promote your website

So you now have this great website, now you want to make money from it? great but in order to make money you need traffic.

There is a phrase i use lots when i talk about internet marketing and that is "targeted traffic". It is not difficult to get people to visit your website, but what is harder, is getting people you want to visit your website.

Example:

You have decided you are going to start an online baby store, you do the research, build your site and now you want people to come and buy your wonderful baby products. What kind of customers do you want to attract? Simple the ones that buy ..... How are you going to do this?

  1. Make sure you are high on search engines for keywords associated with your products. You can do this by doing lots of regular onsite and offsite SEO (search engine optimisation)
  2. Forum and social network marketing - talking to expectant parents, new parents and those looking to buy gifts for friends and family
  3. Google ads. This is pay per click. Again i am not going to go into this but please contact me if you would like any help with this.

You may be wondering why i have placed promote as lesson two rather than monetize. This is because money will always come once your site is performing well. No point having a great site, great services or products if nobody can find you.
